West Regains Riley Plate with Strong Showing in Four Ball, Stableford Matches

The World 100 Club returned to Torrey Pines, the site of its event held in 2007. The West Team, led by captain Richard Slater, regained the Riley Plate by opening a 6 1/2 to 4 1/2 lead in Friday's Four Ball matches played on The Grand Del Mar.

The West increased its lead during Saturday's Stableford round, held on Torrey Pines North. The team of Danny Rothenberg and newcomer Chris Gordon secured a point for the West by scoring a combined 70 Stableford points, the most points scored by any team.

The East faced a 14 1/2 to 7 1/2 deficit heading into Sunday's singles matches. Several of the early matches went to the East, giving them hope for a stunning comeback. The tide turned in the later matches and the West managed to secure enough points to regain the Riley Plate they had surrendered in 2014 at Pinehurst..

Walt Dennis won his second World 100 Club Vase (his first was won in 2011 at Pelican Hill) with three splendid rounds. Three time World 100 Club Vase winner James Varnam secured his first Club Cup. The inaugural World 100 Club Quaich, given to the low net senior player, went to John Rathbone. The MVP jugs went to Steve Sterrett of the East and Dan Rothenberg of the West.
