East Regains Riley Plate with Strong Showing in Four Ball, Singles

The World 100 Club returned to Pinehurst, the site of its inaugural event held in 2004. The East Team, led by new captain Michael Durham, regained the Riley Plate by opening a huge 8 and 2 lead in Thursday's Four Ball matches played on course #4. The team of Thomas Slater and Vern Davenport shot gross 75 and 76 respectively. Slater needed only 26 putts (with five over 30 feet in length) to finish his round.

The West had a respectable tally on Friday's Stableford round, held on the challenging course #2, but failed to gain any ground on the East squad. The team of former and current Captains Fagen/Slater pere had a 5 point lead with two holes to go on Thomas Slater/Chris Kinney but lost the match on a snaking 40 foot net eagle putt by Slater fils on the last.

Saturday dawned with many World 100 Club members sporting stylish plus-fours in honor of Payne Stewart. The day's singles matches were dominated by the East, 11 1/2 to 7 1/2. Both Hank Wolf and Chris Kinney won their matches and each finished with three points for the tournament. Kinney was awarded the East team MVP jug for his solid effort.

Vern Davenport won his second World 100 Club Vase (his first was won in 2005 in Las Vegas) with three splendid rounds. World 100 Club newcomer Joe Gilles employed a buttery swing to secure the Club Cup.
